This is the rope equivalent of the sparkle heart emoji. I don’t think I need to state how much that speaks to my soul *motions to the rest of my site*, but Twisted Monk’s Hand-Spun Sparkle Bamboo Rope can be customized to your own glittery aesthetics. There are 7 color options for the bamboo rope, which is hand spun with three shimmery strands (also available in 7 color options).

My rope is the Sunset colorway (a mix of hot pink, purple, and orange), and all three sparkle strands are pink. Rather, the sparkle bits themselves are metallic silver wrapped around a pink thread. That’s great if you want to add a pop of color (or three) throughout the base rope, but for optimal shimmer, I’d go with the gold and/or silver strands. Despite its appearance, the sparkle isn’t electro-conductive: Twisted Monk makes specific rope, if that’s where your mind is wandering.

What I’m working with is the 40 foot length (6mm width), which is great for expansive body harnesses, rope-eating decorative ties, or larger/taller folks. After playing with it for a while, I think their option of two 20 foot lengths would suit me better. 40 feet is slightly unwieldy for my self tying purposes; hence, experiments like a very sturdy strap-on thigh harness. Ultimately, it’s all about what’s most comfortable and practical for you and your uses.

Despite my awkwardness when handling an extra 10 feet of rope than I’m used to, this sparkle bamboo is a pleasure to tie and be tied with. It slips over skin and hands seamlessly; the colors are vibrant and even; and everything is spun together uniformly. I usually raise an eyebrow at the term “luxurious”, but this rope is so soft, fluid, and well crafted that I don’t know how else to describe it. I still prefer hemp’s sturdiness for general use, and you’ll need a stronger rope for suspensions, but I love this bamboo for decorative ties, sensitive skin, or when I want to look like I rolled around in glitter (sans clean-up).

Unlike hemp, it doesn’t have a distinct smell. When I asked my partner for her opinion, she succinctly observed, “it smells like… rope.” This hand spun bamboo is also more expensive than hemp, especially with the addition of the customized sparkle strands. If you’re interested in bamboo, but can’t splurge on the glitz, try Twisted Monk’s non-sparkle option.

The ends are nicely whipped like all Twisted Monk rope. Black thread is the default, but if you want to go full coordination, you can add on a custom thread color. Sprouting from the ends are little tassels created by the many strands of bamboo and sparkle, which add an element of sensation when they move over skin. They can also be fun to utilize, think: nipple tassels on a body harness (like this one by the awesome GlitterDom), hair tie accessories, or a fancy bit gag.

I’m clearly into the Twisted Monk Bamboo Sparkle Rope, but there are a few factors in deciding if it will serve you well. If shimmery rope doesn’t bring a twinkle to your eye… thanks for reading anyway! This is also a skip for rope suspensions and anyone who wants some mean texture (unless cozy t-shirts feel mean to you). Finally, you might want to check out other rope options, depending on your budget. But if you’re looking for a special rope that’s super soft, beautiful, and made by a rad company, then sparkle on.

P.S. If you see something you like from Twisted Monk (like this rope or a jackets-worth of A+ rope pins/patches… just saying), you can use FEMMECOCK10 for $10 off $75+

Twisted Monk sent me this rope in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
